Noble Meadow Trail
Noble Meadow is an ideal name for this loop trail with its open meadows and majestic ponderosa pine trees. It’s located in the Elk Meadow Park, off Highway 74 in Evergreen, about 30 minutes west of Denver (see the map at the bottom of post). Noble Meadow trail is a favorite for a quick walk for families with small ones, to catch up with a friend, or some refreshing alone time.
Get Out & Let Go
This year’s rare extended fall season between the changing golden aspen leaves and the winter snow, along with the unusually warm sun, amplified the smell of dry earthy autumn grasses that filled the air.
The peaceful openness of the meadow made me take in deep breaths that opened my lungs and my spirit as well. The easy midday walk set the stage for me to let go of the stress of the day and week that had been building up.
“Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love – that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” – George Eliot
Quick & Easy Hike
If you park at the lower end of Buchanan Recreation Center the total hike is less than 1 mile. You will find the trailhead for the Painter’s Pause trail which will connect to Noble Meadow trail. Because this short, easy hike is in town and next to a highway it can be a quick and safe hike to take when time is limited.
But even with a minimal amount of time, this hike is incredibly rewarding to your body and spirit. The beauty completely distracted me from the busy road nearby and the quietness of the meadow took over my senses. I didn’t even notice the traffic until the last portion of the hike that parallels the highway, but by then I was so refreshed that it was just a transition before getting into my car to get on with my day.
Connects with Additional Trails
This is a quick getaway and then on with your day kind of trail. But if you’re interested in a longer hike, it connects with additional trails that could take you as long as you’d like. Pack a lunch and spend the day.
Elk Meadow Park Noble Meadow Trail is an excellent hike any time of year!
